Alicia Speed is a ten year veteran of recruiting, having enormous passion for matching incredible talent with outstanding opportunity. Alicia also uses her profession to uplift, encourage, support, and educate women in the fields of technology and business. Curious, engaging, and collaborative are three words she'd use to describe herself.
Q: Why do you do the job you do?
A: It satisfies many of my passions – problem-solving, relationship-building, researching, writing, and helping!
Q: What is one piece of advice you wish you could tell your younger self?
A: Life is too short for perfection. It is a fool’s errand.
Q: Who is your biggest inspiration?
A: My grandmother, Margaret Josephine. She lived with joyful abandon while breaking down barriers for women. She was the first female real estate agent in Nova Scotia and the first woman to start her own real estate company. She started the first childcare center in Halifax for working women. And trained her husband in a new line of work (real estate appraisal) in support of her business. No one would have called her a “hell-raiser” but she found ways to level the playing field and lifted as she climbed.
In her free time, Alicia is busy raising two confident girls and reading "Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind" by Yuval Noah Harari.
